Origin

On November 16, 1853, three hundred agricultural representatives in Mauritius founded what became the Mauritius Chamber of Agriculture in 1893. The Society's first President was Sir Gabriel Fropier. Its goal was to promote agricultural welfare and progress, crucial for the sugar sector.

Membership, administration and representation

Individuals or entities owning factories or land producing sugar, sugar cane, tea, or tobacco can become members by right. Others with an interest in sugar or related agricultural industries can seek elected membership.
