At the age of 60, Geeanessuer Dowlut cultivates his 45-pole plot in Birse Verdier with passion and respect for nature. Heir to his father’s trade, he has been involved in farming for 40 years. For him, farming is much more than a means of subsistence: it’s a tradition, a responsibility, and a sustainable way of life. On his land, he grows a wide variety of produce, including herbs, edible flowers and cabbage. In December 2024, he joined the Smart Agriculture project as a beneficiary, affirming his commitment to more modern, sustainable agriculture. Highly involved, he encourages young people to turn to this vital sector and plays an active part in Mauritius’ goal of food self-sufficiency.
